A PERSONAL THANK YOU , MESSAGE, AND REQUEST TO YOU, PEOPLE
First of all, thank you for being human, for being social, and for being involved with the future of all of life. Thank you for subscribing to this stack, for following, and for reading. There's so much offered here and everywhere online, it's a smorgasbord.
I'm honored to be considered worth reading in such a stellar field
of willingness, and true humility, and efforts towards improving ourselves
and our orienting perspectives.
Our willingness here to try new lenses.
To spend hours
sometimes to the point of distraction,
sometimes to weariness and despair,
sometimes to heartfelt connection and shared courage.
It's a heck of a lot to hold in our hearts, people. And it's our strength and our defense. Our gut may tend toward busting if over fed, and our heads might tend toward explosion if overly prideful; but our hearts can not hold too much plain old mammalian compassion , love. and kindness toward all of life.
All of us here, all of us Real People, whether writing and reading, or just reading, are working. And WORK IS LOVE IN ACTION. ( Thank you for that, Floating Eaglefeather. )
I'd like to make two requests here. First, if any of you feel you would like a "biography" in wherever that goes here, please say so, and I will do it as best I can.
Secondly, If you find any of these writings intriguing and helpful to you, please share them, because one never really knows where that arrow will strike true. Someone out there may need that , and it costs you nothing to share it.
WATER
Our physical, embodied life requires water more than it does food. Our life requires sleep more than it does food. Our lives require air more than food, or water, or sleep. Air is necessary to Fire. And Earth is necessary to Water.
Earth is the container of Water.
Water is associated with Emotions. E-motion. Emotions are meant to move on out of us. To be expressed, to flow as water.
This is why we are blessed with tears. Tears soften and make watery and assist in moving tearing, burning emotions out of the self, to dissolve the harm and allow it to flow out and away. Tears are cleansing, for body , heart, and soul.
ALL TRUE HEALERS KNOW WATER AS “THE GREAT DISSOLVER”
Take time to reflect on this in as many ways as your imagination and experience afford.
By the time you read this, Mercury, the Trickster, the Psychopomp, shape-shifting planet of intellect, breath, skills, and wit, will have entered the first water sign/rashi of Cancer. Mercury informs the air sign of Gemini, and the earth sign of Virgo. So Mercury is not so comfortable with water. Here is where the intellect must deal with the emotions, the mind, the past, the foundation in this life; must assess security and comfort levels and preferences, and cleverly, if inclined, “tweak” the airy shape shifting Gemini discourse to serve what the intellect thinks it wants/needs/would benefit from/can appropriate/or alternately, can mess with.
The Moon is said to “rule”, “own”, the sign/rashi of Cancer. I ‘d rather say ”in -forms”, “gives it’s graces” to Cancer.
Yes, let’s use this terminology. It’s important, words are important.
The many ,many myths of the Moon “abducting” a woman such that she returns pregnant is pretty easy to understand. The Moon regulates the reproductive cycles, all of them, not just in human females.
The animal symbol of Cancer helps us to distinguish what kind of water this is.
What is the “flow” of water ruled by the Moon? Here we have the Crab, which lives in the inter-tidal zone. The Moon not only causes the waxing and waning tides, the Moon itself waxes and wanes in the light it reflects and emanates. And so the daily motion and changes of the Moon’s position in the firmament affect our emotions on a daily basis, there is a waxing and waning effect, one day up, another day down. The Moon is causing the weather of each day. Our emotional “weather” is our Mood/Moon.
To say: “The Moon waxes and wanes in a monthly cycle”, is a redundancy….as the word “month” comes from “moon”. So does the word “mind”. Your particular Moon placement grows your “mind”. Not intellect, that’s Mercury. Mind is all of our self-orientations combined, all of our native ways of experiencing the flows of life.
One Month is descriptive of the Moon’s journey from new moon to new moon.
The Moon regulates growth on earth, on a daily basis. We’ve all noted the increase in energy as we approach the fullness of the Moon, and emergengy rooms research has noted which times of a month accidents, violence, etc. seem to occur in more than other times. We have the linguistic term “lunatic”. Buffeted by the Moon, Luna. We have the term “mundane” , referring to the Moon Day. Mundane matters are “everyday” matters. Our language is saturated with the Stars and Planets.
When the Moon is waning, so does the energy available for growth. We know to plant and harvest by the phases of the Moon. When the Moon is waxing, there is energy for above ground growth. In the third quarter of the Moon, the first week after the Fullness of the Moon, the energy sinks to the roots, and this is the time to plant root crops, as well as the time to transplant starts. The last quarter of the Moon is termed “balsamic” and this is when the entire plant/planet is at its weakest, particularly the roots are losing grip. If you wait and weed a section of earth in the hours approaching the New Moon, the Moon’s darkness when it conjuncts the position of the Sun, those weeds will come out like water. One week later, feel their tenacity.
The Moon’s position at your time of birth, as it is in your natal chart, will describe a field of motivations and expressions of emotional energy, intellect , and responsiveness. The Moon reflects our particular orientation to life’s passing events. It is composed of our self image and self esteem, first house matters, our relationship to our embodiment, second house matters; our intellect and skills, third house matters; and finally, in the Moon’s natural house of the fourth house, our emotions; our mother, and relation with our mother; our home, our nest, our security and comfort zone. This is where we hide from the world and bond emotionally. This is where our root in this life resides, the mother, the home, the emotions. The Moon shares it’s emotional knowledge with us, while we learn to ride the tides of our personal life’s journey.
As the Moon’s affairs are those of nourishment for growth, security and comfort, safety , protection, privacy, intimacy, bonding, as the Moon indicates the mother in the chart, and as the Moon as informative, as the forming energy of, Cancer, we are in the realm of food, nourishment; continuosly changing emotions and minds, as the waxing and waning of the tides.
We will find that persons with strongly positioned planets in Cancer will often be sailors, sailing the waves of consciousness on the surface of the oceans, and sailing the tides.
“Jesus was a sailor when he sailed the tides,
he sailed the oceans, and he sailed the seas”
These lines are from a song from an Australian female composer/group, and I cannot find it anymore. If anyone can, and link me to it, that would be great. The refrain goes thus:
Take me down to your dance floor
And I won't mind the people when they stare
Paint a different color on your frontdoor
And when the morning comes I will still be here
Those with a prominent Cancer placement will also tend to be cooks, feeders, nuturers. It’s a personal orientation, and you can bank on this :
For a Cancer, “Food Is Love”
We may find prominent Cancer placements in those who grow food, those who harvest, store, and ship food. Those who store seeds. Those who hold or seek emotional knowledge. Those who collect and distribute food through food bansk, free meals, etc.
A Cancer Ascendant is a very complex person. There can be a soft mass of emotion under a hard shell, as per it’s totem, the Crab. Crabs walk sideways, and they hide at the slightest opportunity. They live in that intertidal zone that is continuously changing.

Can you see how knowing this may give us better knowledge of one another, and better ways of relating with the intrinsic, but familiar, differences inherent in every aspect of every manifestation of creation?
Whatever house of your natal chart in which Cancer sits, this is where you seek and find the most comfort and security. If Cancer is the twelfth house, sleep will be your comfort, and the place you sleep your most needed security. If in the second house of resources, you will seek secure, comforting levels of resources to make available to your self. Where the Moon is placed in your chart, and what planet is placed in Cancer, and how that house and planets are aspected and affected by the other planets’ placements in the chart, is the complexity of the story. But basically, wherever you Moon sits, is a central indication of how and where and with which inputs your mind is formed and functions in this life. As well as the results your Moon’s activities will bring.

As the Moon is indicative of the overall complex we call “MIND’, then it is hugely implicated in education.
In Vedic Astrology the Moon holds central importance for two reasons:
First of all, clocks are an iffy thing, historically, and one could not always assess the specific time of birth accurately, which sets the lagna as ascendant and order of the houses. But as the Moon is always visible, daily, in it’s course, the Moon’s position for the time of birth was easy to know.
Secondly, we say “the Moon is always active at birth”
We can see this several ways. First of all, the Moon moves faster than any other planet. It’s perpetually “active”. More importantly, the Moon indicates the past, and is linked with the mother, and who is more “active “ at birth than the mother?
Right. That’s why it’s called “LABOR”. Only the most massive, death defying labor there is on the planet, that is referred to casually these days as “natural” and “just like urinating or taking a shit”. What bullshit. I dealt with that idiocy and denial in some post’s comments, yesterday. Geez. NO, it was rumble, so that’s no surprise.
My brief and to the point response to this kind of inanity: Go poop me a watermelon.
So the Moon is always active at birth, and charts can be read with the Moon as ascendant. This will give a more accurate view of the emotional and mind journey of the person. The Lagna as Ascendant, that is the “tie -down” of place, date, and precise time of birth, is more about the SELF image, self generated direction, and self assessment and portrayal.
The Moon is about Self In Relation…….. to all else!!
KNOW THYSELF
There are several practices we can activate to come to an understanding of the influence of our natal Moon’s position.
First of all, read, listen, and reflect on the HOUSE the Moon resides in.
Secondly, most important, study deeply, with all inputs you can access so you have enough different views to percieve your own personal orientation within that FIELD of growth resources…which is what we refer to as The Mansions of The Moon, or in the vedic , the Nakshatras.
The Vedic definition of “nakshatra” is “that which does not decay”.
This is because the Nakshatras are created by the Fixed Stars.
We call the planets “The Wanderers”, as they continuously circle the Sun, and we can see and experience this multiply in one human lifetime. Whereas the Fixed Stars, also known as the “asterisms” remain where they are, and only move in the sky along with the entire backdrop over the course of millenia.
The “pole star” has not always been “Polaris”. This is why different eras looked to a different asterism as that which the solstices fell on. and different asterisms which they indicated as the “begininng” of the astrological wheel.
Here are instructions on how to pull up your own or anyone else’s, as well as that of “events”, astrological time stamp, chart.
Once you’be oriented a bit to your Moon placement,
Oh, the best places to go for a quick intro. to your planetary positions would be these:
KRS Channel Astrology
Ryan Kurczak at “Asheville Vedic Astrology”
I’m assuming you don’t want to read books? Foolish of me. The books you would want would be “The Nakshatras” by Komilla Sutton. but also, Mansions of The Moon, by Kenneth Johnson.
So, Dr. Arjun Pai is also very fun to listen to, when he doesn’t go on and on about things he knows little of…and he has done some short ones on the Nakshatras. HIs group, Pai Team , has done invaluable long detailed and truly amazing discussions on the Nakshatras, Moon Mansions., for KRS astrology, and themselves, of course. These are truly a great gift.
A DISCLAIMER HERE:
A human child learns a language without formal instruction by the age of two.
Just read and listen, and you’ll do that too. It’s inherent. Depending on placements, you may have to put more of one kind of attention or another to it, depending on your learning orientations.
To “educate”, comes from “educare”, which means “to draw out from”
To educate a person is to assist in drawing out for and from them thEIr unique personal way of learning. Once that is accomplished, the sky’s the limit.
And actually, even the sky is not “the limit” , but rather, the sky is “liminal”.
The Moon is the Lap of The Mother.
It is the round softness of the nourishing breast. It is the “heart melt” of milk given by the Mother. It is the ground and stability and security and comfort of the Mother’s Lap.
The moon is said to be exalted in Taurus, and debilitated in Scorpio.
Taurus, the embodiment. Venus, rajasic and materialistic. The EARTH container for the Moon. The earth supports and holds the oceans.
How does your Moon water flow, and how is it appreciated? Here is one interesting interpretation I came across recently. Remember always, that one position does not the full story tell. The gas gauge is not the only indicator of how the car may function. Right?

And the most important way to keep track of the Moon’s daily influence upon you is to make note of the activites and feelings and thoughts of each day for one month.
Then go back and study how the position of the Moon at each of those times may have influenced your activities, thoughts, and behaviors.
I have often found myself suddenly more than willing to “clean house” when the Moon enteres my fourth house of home. And when it transits my twelfth, house, I’m sleeping. Do Not Disturb.
SWEET MOON DREAMS TO Y’ALL
Blessed Be, More to Come

hey Laughing,
I would love a bio, I bet it's a winner!
I'm taking your advice here and keeping it in mind, I suspect it might be useful!
I have limited time to read, as my health plan seems to require a lot of movement, and my life plan requires a lot of driving 😜 Anything that is available as audio on a CD is wonderful. if I can't get it from my library sometimes I can get it from thriftbooks Etc...
I guess I will check to see if you are making these posts into podcasts? I get it, that is a whole extra level of difficulty...
